Phlight History
Husband and wife, Jay and Nikomi Arroyo, are the owners and managers
of Phlight restaurant and wine bar located in the historic district
of Uptown Whittier, California. Meeting as students at Whittier
College and wanting to give back their love for the city of their
alma mater, they have now done so with one of Whittier’s most recent
successful establishment, Phlight. While Jay and Nikomi run the
daily operations of the restaurant, Jay also succeeds as a Program
Specialist for WACSEP in addition to raising their four children.
Jay and Nikomi chose
to create an ambiance at Phlight that is sophisticated, upbeat, and
warm for the community of Whittier as well as the surrounding cities
where word has spread regarding the amazing cuisine. They enjoy
providing the art of service in an inviting atmosphere of delectable
food and wine. Opening a restaurant with the concept of serving
tapas or “small plates” with a high-end quality was a bit daring on
a formally underdeveloped street in Whittier. However, with much
surprise and enthusiasm, Phlight’s concept reminiscent of the
history of tapas in old world Spain continues to gain acceptance and
appreciation signified by a bustling and booming full house.
